The detector I purchased was a Bounty Hunter Quicksilver w/ pinpointer probe. I also bought the Bounty Hunter Headphones. There will be a link on the bottom of the post.
The Bounty Hunter came in within 5 business days like Amazon said it would. I pulled the 3 pieces out of the box and put it together in minutes.
Honestly I did the guy thing, didn't fully read the instructions, and ran right out to a local baseball field to try it. Now I found a few things which I will put up in an other post, but please read the instructions first. Despite the fact that my first find was a 1995 quarter I would have saved tons of time digging up junk had I read the instructions.
I have so far used the metal detector 4 times and the only complaint I have isn't with the detector itself, but with the pinpointer that came with it. The pinpointer is supposed to detect metal between 3/4 and 1 in. Unfortunately it only reads metal when it touches metal. I read reviews from others that have mentioned this problem also.
If the pinpointer worked accurately I don't think I would have had to make my holes bigger which would have saved a couple of the plugs that I dug on my first outting.
I am not an expert by any means, but I did do a little research on product before I made a purchase. I wanted a detector that wasn't fifty bucks because I assumed it would be garbage and I didn't want a five thousand dollar model either. I picked one that was moderately priced around a hundred and twenty dollars. I bought this particular unit for a few reasons.
1. If I didn't like the hobby I didn't burn a giant hole in my pocket.
2. If I did find something like a piece of jewelry the unit would pay for itself quickly.
3. I thoroughly read the reviews and decided that this unit was a good one for the price.
4. It came with a pinpointer and I thought it would be good idea so I didn't have to make a big hole while digging. Except for the fact I know this pointer doesn't work as marketed.
Overall I found stuff so I got the detecting bug and I hope to find something special very soon.
